Left Behind?
Reford Mott
What a scary thought! At least it is for a good bit of Christians who buy into the teaching that true believers will be raptured out of the earth and sinners will be left behind for some 7-year tribulation period.
I'll admit that eschatology can be confusing, but this particular perspective leaves me with more questions than answers. Unless, of course, you follow the teachings of Jesus about the end times instead of Tim Lahaye's.
“Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and *they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. * In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear“ (Matthew 13:40-43 ESV)
Did you see it? Jesus said *It is the law-breakers and sinners who are gonna be gathered out first * and sent off to judgment, while the righteous will be left to shine like the sun in the kingdom of God. More than the best selling book or the movie, it is this that should influence the way we read what he later says in Matthew 24:40-42.
"Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming."
It might be a little easier for some of you to believe otherwise, but for me, I'm not so sure about this left behind concept. Because as it turns out, it just might be the better of the two alternatives. Hey, you never know.
