WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST?”
Josimar Salum
“For who has known the Lord's mind, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16
This is a very misunderstood text.
Notice in the entire chapter that Paul sometimes speaks in the singular first person and sometimes speaks in the plural first person.
“My word and my preaching were not persuasive words of human wisdom, but a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not be based on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2: 4-5
Here he speaks in the first person singular referring to himself. His word, his preaching...
“However, we speak wisdom among the perfect; not, however, the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that annihilate themselves; ” 1 Corinthians 2: 6
Then, see the following verses, he writes "we speak".
“these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:10
God has revealed this to us ... He has not revealed it to me, He has not revealed this individually, but to us. Whoever receives a revelation does not contain it by himself.
“For who has known the Lord's mind, that he may instruct him? But * we have the mind of Christ.”* 1 Corinthians 2:16
You don't have the mind of Christ. nor do I have the mind of Christ. * WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST. *
No one has the total revelation of God! We will always depend on our brothers and sisters. For this reason, living as the Church is the path to maturity. This is tremendous, as it neutralizes any individualism that may manifest itself. Living as the church doesn’t not mean at all meeting on a building, it means having relationship with brothers and sisters on a daily basis, wherever we are.
But how can you say that "we have the mind of Christ" and then say that the Corinthians were carnal?
“Because you are still carnal, for if there is envy, strife and dissension among you, are you not carnal and do not walk according to men?” 1 Corinthians 3: 3
But really who were they?
“Because we are fellow workers with God; you are God's crop and God's building.” 1 Corinthians 3: 9
No one is by himself in the Church and in the Kingdom. You are not alone. We have to overcome any individualism that may exist, to understand that the wisdom of God is only fully manifested through the Body, the Church, the people of God.
You are not the temple of God nor am I the temple of God.
“If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; because the temple of God, which is you, is holy. ” 1 Corinthians 3:17
We are the Temple of God and whoever destroys the Temple of God, the Church, which is us, God will destroy as well.
Everything is ours, everything! Not mine, not yours, but ours. If you understand the depth of these words you will be amazed, to know that everything converges to Christ and God.
“Therefore, let no one boast in men; because everything is yours: be it Paul, be Apollo, be Cephas, be the world, be life, be death, be the present, be the future, everything is yours, and you, of Christ, and Christ, of God." 1 Corinthians 3: 21-23
