Who is named after Lucifer (Morning Star) in the Scriptures?
Josimar SalumFor almost everyone, "Lucifer" is the devil, Satan, the ancient serpent. The one which is known as Lucifer has no part with the children of God. He is God's enemy. And was utterly and completely defeated at the Cross of Calvary. Jesus Christ stripped him, destroyed him, and annihilated all his works.
“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” 2 Peter 1: 19 (Revised and Corrected)
Jerome in the Latin Version Vulgate translated in this verse the word "phósphoros" - "morning star" or "morning of the dawn, the one who brings light" - by "Lucifer". From the Latin “lucem” - luz + “ferre”.
In Isaiah 14:12 the Hebrew expression for "Lucifer" is "helel ben shahar - O Lucifer, son of the morning!"
Without going into the merits of the discussion on this subject l, I just want to discuss the text of Isaiah chapter 14.
In verses 1 through 4 the Word of the Lord is intended for Jacob or the house of Jacob.
“The Lord will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob. (v.1)
Verse 4 stated that on the day that the Lord gave rest to the house of Jacob a proverb would be said concerning the city of Babylon.
“you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended! (v.4)
In v. 12 still discussing Babylon, the text describes “the morning star” what the Septuagint translated as Lucifer.
Literally it may be, "How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! ..." which is the same expression as 2 Peter 1:19.
But it was translated that way, using the transliterated Latin term and not as a translation.
“How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart (Lucifer said) “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit. Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: “Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble? "
In the entire text of Isaiah 14 no mention is made of the "ancient serpent, the Dragon" as Revelation 12 calls the "devil."
Jesus described the devil as follows:
“You have the devil as your father, and you want to fulfill your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and NEVER stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he utters a lie, he speaks his own things, because he is a liar, and the father of lies. ”John 8:44
They allude to what is commonly said of the devil, who was an angel.
This is not true, for he was never an angel, never perfect, because Jesus clearly said that from the beginning he was a murderer and NEVER stood in the truth.
Please try to understand what I am going to say.
Apart from all the prejudice related to this expression "star, son of the morning or the morning" - in Hebrew is an expression - helel ben shahar - and in Greek only one word - "phosphoros" - which in Latin was translated by Jerome as "lucifer".
In 1 Peter 1:19 "Lucifer - Morning Star" is Jesus, no doubt.
“And we have very firm the word of the prophets, which you do well to beware of, as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and Lucifer appears in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:19 (Septuagint)
In all Scripture the only being who desired to be like God, though similar and according to His image was created, was Adam.
“Then the serpent said unto the woman, Surely you will not die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3: 4-5
The text of Isaiah 14 clearly speaks of Babylon, personified in the morning star, who as the first man and woman - male and female - desired to be like God and were precipitated into the depths of hell.
Ezekiel 28 is a text similar to Isaiah 14 not because it is about applying it to the same character who insists that he is, in both chapters, the devil.
It is only according to established tradition that we feel almost obliged to sustain the unsustainable.
Otherwise, let's see:
“The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘In the pride of your heart
you say, “I am a god;
I sit on the throne of a god
in the heart of the seas.”
But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
though you think you are as wise as a god”(v.1-2)
The text of Ezekiel 28 speaks clearly of a man.
“Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; and there is no secret that can be hidden from you. ”
(v. 3)
Who was wiser than Daniel? Who is this man wiser than Daniel?
There are very clear mentions, references and applications for the king of Tyre.
But does the text refer only to Tyre?
“By your wisdom and understanding
you have gained wealth for yourself
and amassed gold and silver
in your treasuries.
By your great skill in trading
you have increased your wealth,
and because of your wealth
your heart has grown proud.
“‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“‘Because you think you are wise,
as wise as a god,
I am going to bring foreigners against you,
the most ruthless of nations;
they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom
and pierce your shining splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit,
and you will die a violent death
in the heart of the seas.
Will you then say, “I am a god,”
in the presence of those who kill you?
You will be but a mortal, not a god,
in the hands of those who slay you.
You will die the death of the uncircumcised
at the hands of foreigners.
I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
This text cannot be clearer. The text most clearly still refers to another person who cannot be the king of Tyre, but who is definitely not the devil.
The cherub is not a cherub - to be angelic, because in the text it is clear that it is a man, although he is described as a cherub.
“The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
Son of man, lift up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him,
This is what the sovereign Lord says; You were the seal of measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God; of all the precious stone was thy covering: sardonia, topaz, diamond, turquoise, onyx, jasper, sapphire, carbuncle, emerald and gold; your drums and your fives were made in you; the day you were raised they were prepared.
You were the cherub, anointed to cover, and I established you; On the holy mountain of God you stood among the flushed stones.
You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, until iniquity was found in you. ”
Who was in Eden? Who was perfect? Adam: male and female or Adam and his wife.
It cannot be the devil, because Jesus clearly said that He was a murderer from the beginning. He was never perfect.
And in the following texts, there is a mention of similar men until Adam leaves the scene, though it is with whom the king of Tyre was compared, to be only the ruler of Tyre in the final description.
But no mention is made of hell or the devil here.
“Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.
By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching. All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.’” (verses Ezekiel 28)
It is very easy to find the origin of all beings in the universe. It is difficult to have to destroy an ancient dogma, which is nothing but a myth.
A final word. For your conclusion, see Isaiah 45: 7: "I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I the Lord do all these things."
“For in him (in Jesus Christ) were created all things that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers.
Everything was created by Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and all things stand by Him.
And He is the head of the body, of the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from the dead, that it may have preeminence in everything.” Colossians 1: 16-18
